Arriving in Assam by air? Here are the new SOPs you need to follow

GUWAHATI: The health and family welfare department of Assam released a revised standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Tuesday for the passengers arriving in the state by air.

In the revised SOPs the Assam government made rapid antigen test (RAT) mandatory at the airport free of cost and to undergo home isolation or get admitted to private or government health institutions on being found positive. RT-PCR is mandatory at a cost of Rs 500 on being found negative.

Once the sample for RT-PCR is collected, though the passengers can leave the airport premises, still they have to remain quarantined until the test result is declared. Passengers will get hand stamped after the sample collection.

If the RT-PCR result shows positive, the passengers will have to undergo self-isolation at home or get admitted to any private or government hospital, which depends upon the medical condition.

Persons found negative can continue with their normal routine bounded by COVID-19 protocols and safety measures.

Residents of other north-eastern states, arriving in Assam airport from outside the state or directly traveling onwards to other north eastern states, are exempted from these rules including the transit passengers of intra-Assam and inter-north eastern states routes, in case of being found asymptomatic. These passengers need to provide their address proof in the north eastern states.

Violation of these rules will be counted as a criminal offense under the IPC Section 188.
