The Krishak Shramik Unanyan Parishad (KSUP), a farmers' body from Assam, along with seven other organizations, has called for a 12-hour Assam bandh on Friday, December 27, demanding the unconditional and immediate release of KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi, who has been booked by the NIA under UAPA.
Reportedly, the 'bandh' has been called from 5 am till 5 pm, in the evening of December 27. The 'bandh' has also been called with the demand to scrap the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

The other organizations supporting the bandh are Asom Jatiyabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Goria-Moria Yuba Chatra Parishad, youth body of the scheduled caste community, Asom Sangrami Yuba Chatra Santha, All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU), and All Assam Unemployed Youth Organization.
Meanwhile, the emergency services like medical, examinations, fire services, etc. have been exempted from the 'bandh'.

It is to be mentioned here that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Akhil Gogoi on December 16 under the new Unlawful Assembly Prevention Act (UAPA) for his alleged involvement with 'Maoists' in protests against the C(A)A in the State.
