Members of the All Assam Students' Union, continuing its series of protests against the amendment of the Citizenship Act, on Monday formed a 'human-chain' in Tinsukia's AT Road that was attended by several hundred sons and daughters of Assamese soil. In Lakhimpur too, the AASU, along with 30 indigenous bodies, staged a similar protest.

"We are one....all communities are one. There has been an attempt to divide the people of Assam. We have warned the Government that no matter how hard they try to divide us, we will stay united in our opposition to the draconic CAA. They have tried to create division among protesters with their gimmicks such as the one-time pension for artistes, but we have not taken the bait...", Dipanka Nath, the President of AASU, told Inside Northeast.
It may be mentioned that anti-CAA human chains have become commonplace across the nation. Far far away in Kerala, for instance, a 620 km long human chain from the northern part of Kerala to the south was formed on Republic day, by the ruling CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front, demanding withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Kerala's anti-CAA protests have been led by none other than the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan himself, who has compared the ruling BJP's strategy to that of European colonizers in days of yore. Vijayan further said that while the Indian freedom struggle was against the colonisers, the current movement is against those who stood with the colonisers.
Vijayan has also said that the ruling dispensation is using "communal" politics to "divide and rule" over the masses, a tactic that, Vijayan claimed, was also used by the colonial powers to maintain their dominance over the natives.
