GUWAHATI: The Assam Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell has arrested as many as six officials and staff of Mandia Development Block today for allegedly misappropriating money from the MLA fund of the Baghbar Constituency following CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's instruction.
The accused six persons - Mangaldai Zilla Parishad's Deputy CEO Yusufur Rahman, Jadav Choudhury, Ainur Rahman, Abdur Rezzak, Mujabir Rahman and Sahjamal Ali - were arrested from Mangaldai, Guwahati and Barpeta respectively by the CM's Special Vigilance Cell.
An FIR has been filed against the six in Chandmari Police Station. The FIR stated that in a regular enquiry conducted by the enquiry officer it was found that an amount of Rs 25,08,323 has been misappropriated in connivance and collusion of officials and staff of the Mandia Development Block without execution and implementation of 14 schemes under Baghbar LAC for construction of roads under MLA Local Area Development (MLALAD)fund.

All the 12 MLALAD schemes were verified by a joint team of CM Vigilance Cell and PWD expert team and it was found that schemes were not executed as per plan by construction committee constructed by Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta upon local MLA's recommendation.
According to reports, a sum of Rs. 65,00,000 was released from the MLA LAD fund, out of which. Rs. 25,08,323 was misappropriated by the construction committee without executing the plan which caused loss to the Government exchequer and pecuniary gains for themselves.
Six of them will be brought in police remand for further proceedings as an investigation is still underway.
