BJP MLA from Hojai, Shiladitya Deb, on Friday termed the Assam Accord as a ‘historical blunder’.
Talking to media, the quirky lawmaker said leaders of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) had made the historical blunder to become ministers. He alleged that Assam had been pushed into darkness after 1971 was made the base year for updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.
Deb predicted that Dhubri MP and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, would become Assam Chief Minister by 2026 given the alarming rise in the population of Muslims. He said by that time, 56 of the state’s 126 Assembly constituencies will be “dominated” by people belonging to the community.
Claiming that there are no “infiltrators” in Tripura, he said he favoured Assam to be like Tripura.
