Following the recent statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sichar, leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, APCC president Ripun Bora along with MP Gaurav Gogoi, MLA Rockybul Hussain and other members of the party has expressed their dissatisfaction over it.
Addressing the media, Ripun Bora said that the entire statement made by the Prime Minister is just to strengthen the vote bank of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the region. He added, “PM Modi did not say anything on any issue of the state. He has just fulfilled the criteria of the party’s election campaign. Modi’s announcement to amend the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha as soon as possible is nothing more that ‘election lollipop’ to gain their votes from the Hindu-Bengalese.”
He further added that the PM did not mention anything on granting ST status to the six indigenous people of Assam and not single effort was made to revive the two most important paper mills of Assam which they have been claiming to revive since 2014.
Adding to it, Bora mentioned that the party has no issue over the amendment of the Bill but the issue is that the Assam Accord should not be diluted under any circumstances.
