Assam Accord ‘soul’ of Assamese people: AGP

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) said while the Assam Accord is the “soul” of Assamese people, the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is a “ghost” for them.

In a memorandum submitted to NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela by an AGP delegation on Monday, the party demanded that no genuine Indian citizen should be left out of NRC. At the same time, the party urged Hajela to ensure that no illegal immigrant makes it to the list.

“The NRC should be foreigner-free. The illegal immigrants are a problem not just for Assam but for the other states in the country as well,” the AGP said.
