In a shocking development, an ACS officer of Assam serving as the Circle Officer of the Titabar Revenue Circle, Kabita Kakati Konwar has demanded money from local traders in the name of donation for celebration of the centenary programme of the circle office. The Circle Officer issued letters to several traders demanding money which has been fixed  at Rs 4000/- for Rice/Flour/Timber/Stone crusher millers/Proprietor of shopping/clothing Malls/Oil Depots etc and Rs 2000/- from other shopkeepers. It is noteworthy that the BJP led government in Assam has been claiming to be a corruption free government but is demanding money from the public by a top official in the name of donation not a corruption? Then how will the government justify its claim to be a corruption free government? The question that arises here is this not a kind of extortion in the name of donation?

Talking to INSIDENE, Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat Virendra Mittal said that the SDO(Civil) has ordered an enquiry into the matter and the letter has been withdrawn.

This is the first instance where an top government demanding money from public has come to light but there may be more such cases which are yet to come to the fore.
