Assam Actor Jatin Bora has extended his support to the ongoing anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Bill protests by resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Expressing his stand against the Bill that was passed in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, the Ratnakar star offered his resignation and joined the crowds protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill on Thursday.

“Public is our God, so I am with the public,” said the actor, who had joined the BJP recently. He also joined the public rally organized under the banner of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the Artists’ Society of Assam.
Bora has also announced to resign from his post as chairman of the state government-run Assam State Film Finance Development Corporation, as a mark of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

It may be mentioned here that the state of Assam is witnessing massive protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill in spite of an indefinite curfew and suspension of mobile internet services. The situation has taken a turn for the worse in several parts of the city, after clashes between the security personnel and the activists. On Wednesday, as many as 25 people were injured during the protests.
Meanwhile, the suspension of mobile internet that was earlier imposed till Thursday, has now been extended to Saturday.
