Guwahati: After the denial of Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed’s proposal to set up a ‘Miya museum’ at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, another Congress MLA has demanded a Bengali museum at the Kalakshetra.
MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha has demanded that the government should set up a Bengali museum to reflect the culture and heritage of the Bengalis at the Sankardeva Kalakshetra.

Claiming that Bengalis have the biggest contributions in the freedom struggle of India, the Congress legislator said, “Everyone had contributed to the freedom struggle. But, Bengalis had the highest contributions. Many leaders sacrificed their lives in the movement. People should know the origin of the Bengalis, their role, and sacrifices in the freedom struggle of India,” Dey said.
“Sankardeva Kalakshetra is an asset of Assam. It should reflect the cultures of all the communities of Assam. It should have culture and heritage of all including Bengalis, Bodos, and Rabhas,” he has been quoted as saying.
