Assam: Air passengers leaving state within 72 hours of arrival need not undergo quarantine

The Assam Government has issued certain fresh guidelines for the air passengers arriving at the state. Keeping in view the decreasing trend of COVID-19 cases in the state, the government is frequently changing the guidelines for air travellers. Earlier, the government had issued guidelines for air travellers in July.

According to the new guidelines issued by the Assam Health and Family Welfare Department, all the Air passengers leaving the state within 72 hours of their arrival need not undergo quarantine. However, the department laid certain conditions for air passengers.

The visitor will have to provide a copy of the return ticket indicating his/ her departure within 72 hours and will have to provide a swab sample for Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) immediately on arrival. “If the test result is negative, he/she shall be allowed to proceed. If the test result is positive, he/she shall have to undergo isolation/treatment as per the protocol for COVID patients,” the order issued by the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam Health & Family Welfare Department stated.

Moreover, in case of symptomatic visitors, he/she will have to undergo RT-PCR testing also, even if the RAT result is negative, and shall remain in isolation until this test result is declared.

The order further stated that the visitor shall comply with all hygiene and social distancing norms during the period of his/her stay in Assam and in case, the visitor exceeds the 72 hours' time frame of stay, he/she will face penal action and shall be placed in quarantine, as per extant norms.

Earlier, all air passengers arriving at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport in Guwahati had to undergo a rapid antigen test for COVID-19, the results of which will be declared within a few minutes. The passengers, who were tested negative for the lethal virus, had to undergo 14 days of home quarantine.

Earlier, all air passengers were taken to Hotel Kiranshree Grand for swab tests and then sent to institutional quarantine until the test results got declared.
