ASSAM: AJMAL ACCUSED OF GRABBING IDGAH LAND IN DHUBRI

An organisation from Dhubri district on Thursday petitioned Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal alleging that Dhubri Lok Sabha member, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, had grabbed the land of a historic idgah at Alamganj in the district by misusing his power.

The Deshi Yuva Parishad (DYP) alleged that the land under Dag No. 37 and 38 of the Archaeological Idgah under the Circle Office (Revenue, Dhubri) Alamganj part-9, was encroached upon for the construction of Ajmal Industrial Training Institute. The allegation against the MP from All India United Democratic Front was made after a signboard of the proposed institute was found erected at the site.

“The plot, measuring 28 bighas, is a historical land and it involves the sentiments of the locals. Badruddin Ajmal encroached upon the land by using his political power. I, therefore, request your honour to be kind enough to consider the aforesaid facts and circumstances and take immediate necessary action,” DYP president Zahangir Hussain Ahmed wrote in a letter to the Chief Minister.

Back in 2015, the Ajmal Foundation had written to the office of the circle officer seeking 11 bighas of land of the idgah for the construction of the institute.

“They had written to the circle office in 2015 seeking permission for the construction of the institute. We then forwarded their letter to the office of the deputy commissioner, Dhubri. We learnt that there has not been any response from the office of the DC,” circle officer, Joy Sharma, told INSIDENE.

The police have also confirmed that permission for the said institute at the idgah site was not granted so far.

Asked if they would remove the signboard, the circle officer said, “It can be done”.
