Palash Changmai, chief of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP), has urged the people of Assam to come together and chant “Khelo India, Bhago Modi” ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Guwahati and show their opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA.
The AJYCP leader, while addressing the Cultural Protest gathering organised by the Artistes’ Society of Assam, said that the people of the state would have to raise a louder voice and chant “Khelo India, Bhago Modi” so that it reaches the PM’s ears.

It may be mentioned here that the protesters, led by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), AJYCP and several other indigenous civil and social organisations, have resolved to protest against PM Modi’s visit to Guwahati on January 10 to inaugurate Khelo India.
Changmai said that if a tea seller could be the Prime Minister of India, then certainly, a vegetable seller or a fish seller has the will to stand for his motherland and his community.

The AJYCP leader also slammed State BJP President Ranjit Dass over his comment that the people like vegetable vendors and such people have come out to protest against the CAA. He accused the BJP state president of trying to give a communal form to the ongoing protests in Assam.
“The BJP, being the ruler, is now competing with the public to gather support for them in their rallies. It is the most shameful moment for a democracy,” he added.
Changmai lashed out at the BJP for its failure to protect Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s house in West Bengal, which is currently being taken care of by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. “It is well proved that Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal are just greedy for power and have no concern for the people of Assam. It is the biggest tragedy in the history of Assam that it could not get any bold political leaders who stand for their own people.”

The AJYCP leader was seen vehemently criticizing the Assam BJP leaders. He said, “They were seen imposing the culture of North India during the good days of Assam but when they saw the situation going out of control, they remembered our Madhav Dev, Sukapha, Lachit Borphukan and others. Earlier, they were least concerned about them.”
Changmai, however, clarified that the “Khelo India, Bhago Modi” is not to oppose sportspersons. “Assam loves Hima Das, they love Dutee Chand and other players of India but we oppose PM Modi’s visit on January 10. We are utterly disgusted by his action.”
