The protest was also attended by many prominent figures of Assam, including veteran journalist Ajit Bhuyan, Adip Phukan, actress Barsha Rani Bishaya, and others.
AJYCP chief Palash Changmai led the protest putting forward the demand of including the Citizenship Amendment Act in the agenda of the Vidhan Sabha special session that has been going on in the Assam Secretariat in Dispur on Monday. Also, he demanded immediate implementation of ILP in the state of Assam in this special session of the Assembly.
It is to be mentioned here that despite the continuous demand of the indigenous bodies and other political parties, the CAA was not included in the agenda of the special Vidhan Sabha session.
AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya in his speech mentioned that the people of Assam under no circumstance will accept the Act. He (Samujjal Bhattacharya) also cleared on the government’s allegation-- of leftist and Congress’ involvement in the protests-- that the protests are being led by the people of Assam in order to protect their indigenous rights.
Meanwhile, AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that there is no special note of taking in any illegal migrants in Assam. The draconian act cannot be accepted at any cost.
