Guwahati, February 20, 2020:

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) advisor Akhil Gogoi who has been in Judicial Custody since December 27, 2019 was brought to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) following his ill health during his stay at the Guwahati Central Jail.

Speaking to the media here, he said that he had been suffering from certain sicknesses and therefore brought to GMCH for medical tests including tests for eyes and bones.

During his visit to the hospital, he told the media that the protest regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA should not be stopped at any cost.

It needs mention here that Akhil Gogoi has been behind the “bars” since December 12 where he was arrested first by the Jorhat Police and was later arrested by the NIA on December 17. At present Akhil Gogoi is under Judicial Custody and is lodged at the Guwahati central jail.

Earlier, Social activist Medha Patkar, on Wednesday, said that Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leaders including Akhil Gogoi were arrested because they will no compromise with the government regarding the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests.

Speaking to the media, Medha Patkar said that the KMSS leaders which include Akhil Gogoi were arrested for protesting non-violently which seems like a conspiracy. They were put inside the jails after being labeled as Maoist but it is a completely fake allegation. Even the agency putting these charges of him having links with Maoists have no idea on who the “Maoist” actually is.

She added that Akhil and others are being framed without any evidence and it seems that the situation in Assam is turning out to be very worse as the non-violent protests by the people of Assam are not being paid any importance by the government.
