The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union on Friday demanded the release of Koch Rajbongshis Ajit Bhadra and Mahesh Barman within the next seven days from detention camps and alleged that people belonging to the Rajbongshi community are being harassed in the name of National Register Citizens (NRC).

Addressing the media, AKRSU general secretary Gokul Barman said that the Tribunal that has declared Ajit Barman of Khoirabari and Mahesh Barman of Barpeta district as foreigners and sent them to jail is not acceptable.

He mentioned that both Ajit Barman and Mahesh Barman belong to the Koch Rajbongshi community, one of the indigenous communities of the state.

Barman also alleged that the people of the community have been targeted as 'doubtful citizens'.
