GUWAHATI: Due to COVID-19, the Ambubachi Mela (festival), which is conducted every year at Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, Assam has been canceled for the second time.
The Kamakhya temple will remain closed for devotees during the festival period i.e. from tomorrow (June 22) to June 30, according to the temple management authority.
The District Magistrate Kamrup Metropolitan District administration in a notification wrote, "In view of the present scenario of the Covid-19 Pandemic and as per the letter received from the Doloi, MAA Kamakhya Devalaya, dated 10/06/2021, "Ambubachi Mela" for the year 2021 has been canceled.
As an outcome, lodging and accommodation for devotees within the Kamakhya Temple premises would be prohibited till further notice.

On the above-mentioned dates during the festival period, i.e. June 22 to 30, the District Magistrate Kamrup Metropolitan District administration
has urged the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, to not allow any devotee/pilgrim coming from other parts of the state (except residents of the Nilachal hill) to travel uphill of the temple.
Following the closure of "MAA Kamakhya Devalaya" and cancellation of "Ambubachi Mela 2021" due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Station Superintendents of Guwahati and Kamkhya Railway Stations have also been directed to take necessary action and have been requested to make necessary arrangements so that pilgrims from other parts of the country do not visit the temple on the concerned occasion, stated in the notice.
