GUWAHATI: The Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati today at around 12:29 am. Folk artists and locals gathered outside Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and welcomed Shah in the city.


At the Guwahati airport, the Home Minister was received by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

"I heartily welcomed Hon'ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji at Guwahati airport and thanked him on behalf of the people of Assam as he is set to launch several developmental projects for the state," Sonowal tweeted



Union home minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation for the construction of the second medical college and hospital in Guwahati with a budget of ₹ 755 Cr.

“The proposed medical college will be the second one in Guwahati and will be formed by merging the present Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) and the Kalapahar TB Hospital. The new hospital will be a 12-storeyed building to be built on the premises of the present MMCH,” Himanta Biswa Sarma informed.

Sarma further announced that Shah will extend 200 cr grants to around 8,000 Borghar, Namghar of Assam at ₹ 2.50 lacs each under the Asom Darshan Scheme.

“The third chapter will see financial grants to around 8,000 places of worship. Moreover, the roads will also be improved. This will be launched in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah,” Sarma said.

Shah will also launch the ₹ 188 Cr renovation, development and beautification work of the 15th century Batadrava Than in Nagaon district, the first prayer hall built by Srimanta Sankardev, Sarma stated, adding that Shah will also launch the construction work for 9 law colleges in the state from the same venue.
