BONGaIGAON: Villagers in Assam's Bongaigaon district are none too happy about a rickety bamboo bridge that has failed to get the government's attention despite several pleas.

People living in villages of Bidyapur and Bilaspur area in Assam’s Bongaigaon district have spent several years using a rickety bamboo bridge to cross a river.

It appears the villagers have been requesting the state administration to build a proper bridge for their ease of transportation, for a very long time, but their requests have gone unheard.

This bridge is pivotal as it saves people from walking additional kilometers to reach hospitals, schools, and colleges.

"Though it poses serious risks to the lives of the commuters, we are forced to take it as it serves as our only link to the outer world," a local told media.

Locals have also alleged that Barpeta MP Abdul Khaleque and Bongaigaon constituency MLA Phani Bhusan Choudhury have nothing for the development of the area.

Angry villagers have even asked MP Abdul Khaleque not to visit the constituency during election time.
