ASSAM: THIS IS OUR ASSAM AND SHOULD FOREVER REMAIN OURS: SAMUJJAL BHATTACHARYAMLA Satyabrata Kalita appeals Samujjal Bhattacharya to join AGP

Advisor of All Assam Students Union (AASU), Samujjal Bhattacharya outpours on the gloom surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016

At a time when the outcry gain the Citizenship Amendment Bill isn't yet doffed, Bhattacharya speaks his heart out on the issue and precautions that needs to undertaken. Bhattacharya stated that Assam movement lead to the historic Assam Accord and the Citizenship Amendment Bill provides a clear contradiction bill. He stated that Assam has already been burdened and has took the load of the illegal immigrants till 1971 and there is no way Assam can afford any load further.

Even after 32 years of the Assam Accord no concrete step has been taken to formulate the Accord. He stated that no government over a period of 32 years considered it a matter to be pondered over. The citizenship Amendment Bill didnot fetch a place in the list of priorities of the government. He also stated that citizenship can never be granted on religious affiliation and that Assam has always acted on the humanity front till date. When asked about the Government's role, he stated that its a conspiracy of the Centre and a planned process to introduce the bill. He also jeopardized the Centre mentioning the notification and orders formulated way back in 2015.He mentioned about the Passport Entry into India Amend Rule, 2015 and Foreign Amendment Rule 2015.

These orders and notifications already lays provisions for the illegal immigrants of Assam and formulates ways to admit them Citizenship. He stated Citizenship Amendment Bill needs to be scrapped along side such orders and notofications. He firmly stated that we are not dumping grounds and such a bill will only bring the Assamese nation at the edge. When asked about the mystery engulfing 30 June which happens to be the second publication of NRC, he stated that is just a trickery of the government to deceive the people or to bring the on-going protests to a halt. When asked about the Rajnath Singh's positive response to the bill, Bhattacharya stated that the people of Assam are not lame and unaware. He stated that Assam has always been treated from "Step mother's eye" and that it has always been subjected to atrocities of the Centre. But Assam has always been a rebel since the days of Gopinath Bordoloi to preserve its own existence. He urged that we need to work on three frontiers ''Assam-centric","North East centre" and Nation Centric to get some out of the clutches of such brutal conspiracy hampering the very existence.

He stated to scrap the bill and to deport the illegal immigration on an absolute basis the state should make time bound action plans for execution of the Assam Accord, the government should also provide Constitutional Safeguard to the people sealing the Indo-Bangladesh border completely ans providing land rights and rights on resources to the indigenous people and to sign a Bilateral treaty with Bangladesh government to deport the Bangladeshis. Talking to INSIDE NE , Bhattacharya laid an important light that CM Sonowal while interaction with AASU and it's ally organizations did put a heed on the steps to discard the inflow of illegal immigrants but however stepped aside to put a transparent decision on the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Bhattacharya expressed his grievances stating that although the government at the Centre has changed but it's negligent perspective on Assam is still intact. In his appraisal to the youth of Assam he stated that the youth should creatively formulate ideas to make Assam a better place. Lastly he announced of a mass protest from Latasil Field across the city and urged the mass to join in to firmly voice their protest.

Thus it will be an interesting development to see if another such mass protest touches the wisdom cords of the State government for genuine safeguard of the people.

Let the cries land in justice!
