Atal Amrit Abhiyan, a medical benefit under cashless mode was ceremonially launched in the International Convention Centre, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati today. The ceremony began with singing of the National Anthem followed by lighting of the lamp by Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. The Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma besides a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

While highlighting the fastest universal covering scheme, Assam Health and Family Welfare minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that the scheme has presently covered 1.5 crore citizens who is benefited with the laminated beneficiary cards. To ensure the scheme across the state, the government of Assam has allocated Rs 400 crores for the financial year. Atal Amrit Abhiyan has been signed by many private limited hospitals to provide the benefits of the scheme. This ambitious scheme provides comprehensive coverage and cashless treatment benefits up to Rs 2 lakhs to every individual from BPL and low Income households across Assam for treatment of six commonly prevalent and high disease groups. Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma added that more such schemes would be introduced within the next 3 years. He also mentioned about ‘Samartha Axom’ where a newborn child will be treated free until 12 years of any diseases that can be corrected surgically and the blueprints of the scheme has so far been passed in the Cabinet.

While the Chief Minister gratefully invited all the general public to join hands and make India a disease free country.

The Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi addressed the public while wishing more developments for the country.

The Honourable Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu while addressing the dignitaries talked about the lifestyle change of a country and focusing on better health to build a wealthier nation ahead.
