BONGAINGAON: While the hangover of Lovlina Borgohain's victory is still in the air, another athlete from Assam has successfully carved a niched for herself in the field of sports.
Purnima Choudhury of Bongaigaon district in Assam has bagged two gold medals in an international championship held in Nepal recently.
In the 'International Championship 2021' by Sanyukt Bharatiya Khel Foundation, Purnima bagged two gold medals at both the categories of 100 mtr (hurdle race) and 110 mtr race. .
As many as three countries took part in the event that was held in Nepal. Two more countries couldn't take part in the event due to the pandemic.
Purnima was felicitated by several organizations on Thursday with traditional Gamusa, Jaapi, Certificate etc. at Bongaigaon for bringing laurels to the state.
While interacting with media, the athlete urged the state government as well as the Chief Minister to encourage sportspersons from rural areas in the state.
"First of all, I am very thankful to everyone. I would to request our Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to kindly give a boost to rural sportspersons. There should a sports training centre in every gaon panchayat", she added.
