In a major bust, Assam Police authorities on Thursday were able to apprehend a man who has been charged of looting lakhs of rupees from State Bank of India (SBI) ATMs. Several others have also been arrested in connection to the case.
In a major breakthrough in SBI ATM looting, a team of Hailakandi District Police led by Faiz Ahmed Barbhuiya, APS, and a column of 21 AP(IR)Bn on deputation conducted a raid in Loknathpur under Dholai Police Station in Assam's Cachar district.

The raid was conducted in Cachar in cooperation with DEF, Cachar and apprehended prime accused Altaf Hussain Laskar alias Reshim, who was found hiding inside an earthen bunker and recovered looted cash of Rs 6 lakhs, 2 mobile handsets, few sharp weapons, one ammunition of 5.56 bore Rifle and some jewellery items.
Nearly 84 lakh were looted from three ATMs of SBI in Hailakandi following which police registered cases nos.228/2020, 229/2020 and 230/2020, all u/s 457/380 IPC involving burglary and launched a vigorous operation to track the miscreants. Three other accused persons have also been apprehended during the raid on Thursday. Six persons have already been arrested in connection with these ATM looting cases so far.
However, the local authorities expect to arrest more persons in connection with this incident. said Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath.
