Assam: Bandh paralyses normal life in Tinsukiaassam tinsukia bandh

The first day-long dawn to dusk strike this year in Assam's Tinsukia district on Wednesday paralyzed normal life all across the district over alleged murder.

The bandh was called on Tuesday by Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association ( ATTSA ) and was supported by three other organizations over the alleged murder of Jacky Biger who was at his 37th and was allegedly killed on Monday night while guarding Betjan Tea Estate. Amid incessant rain since morning hundreds of activists came out on National Highways 37, 51 and 52.

They blockaded the Highways at several places including the National Highway 37 triangle at Makum, Assam. They burnt tyres and shouted slogans against the government. " We extend our gratitude towards the people of Tinsukia for supporting the bandh spontaneously and simultaneously across the district. We demand Rs twenty lakh compensation, a permanent job to the kin of the deceased. His statue should be erected at the tea estate premise as he sacrificed his life to save the tea garden. " Poresh Gowala, president, ATTSA,  Tinsukia unit, Assam told the INSIDE NE.

The wrongdoers must be arrested at the earliest. By evening we shall have a meeting at the deputy commissioner's conference hall. Afterwards, we shall decide our next course of action", Gowala added. Meanwhile, the tea gardens and tea factories too remain shut this day in protest against the alleged killing of the night guard in Assam. "We have detained two people for interrogation. The culprits will be put behind the war sooner rather than later", a top police official said.
