Following the Assam Bandh called by the Bengali organisations, supporters of the bandh tried to block the national highway-37 by burning tyres and effigies in middle of the road.
The bandh that was called against the killing of the five persons in Tinsukia has created a tensed situation in the state. On one side the Bengali speaking population has supported the bandh while on the other side, a majority of people have denied to support the bandh claiming that it won't bring any solution.
Supporters of the bandh came in large number and tried to shut down regular movement on the NH-37 but the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Some were reportedly planning to vandalise vehicles on the route as well but the police intervention has prevented the situation from worsening.
It may be mentioned that on November 1, five persons belonging to a particular community were killed unidentified gunmen. The gunmen dressed in Army camouflage were first suspected to be militants of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) but the outfit denied having any involvement in the whole incident.
The denial to take responsibility by the ULFA-I has hinted towards a massive conspiracy.
