Assam: Be a responsible citizen, inform police immediately of illegal gambling in your areas

GUWAHATI: As Diwali fervor grips, several gambling dens are set to get activated. In an anti-gambling drive ahead of the festival of lights, Special DGP, L&O, Assam G.P Singh today notified that the police team is ready to act against gambling activity in the state.

G.P Singh through his tweet informed that people with credible information of gambling activity can contact the local police unit or unit Singh directing so that the police can take necessary action against the same.

Announcing the same, Singh tweeted, “"Next few days would see attempts at organised gambling activities including amongst well to do people. People may inform of any such credible information of organised gambling activity to local Assam Police unit or Inbox me to allow action to be taken."

Gambling on Diwali night is traditionally believed to invoke Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth, who may then shower blessings on the player's household for the rest of the year. However, this at times lead to several heinous crimes due to which gambling is considered illegal.
