Bhubaneswar Kalita from BJP and Biswajit Daimary from BPF from Assam took the oath of the office on July 21st, 2020.
Except them, senior journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, who contested the elections as an independent candid with the support from Congress and AIUDF, also won uncontested. He will take the oath of the office at the session of the house.
Earlier, it was speculated that another senior journalist of the State, Atanu Bhuyan would contest for the third seat but he did not submit his nomination papers. After that, all three candidates are likely to win in the RS seats.
Former Congress MP Bhubaneswar Kalita had quit the part expressing dissatisfaction at the party’s stand on the Citizenship Amendment Act.

However, Bhuyan was only nominated after several names were being floated by the Congress and AIUDF parties, brought together by necessity, ahead of the polls. One of the names that was being floated was that of noted filmmaker, Jahnu Barua
Later on June 19th, 2020, elections for four Rajya Sabha seats spread across four states in Northeast India are underway along with other elections in the other 20 seats today. The elections are being held for one seat each in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Manipur.
Manipur’s titular king Sanajaoba Leishemba also took oath as a member of Rajya Sabha in the national capital, New Delhi. She took oath in mother tongue, Manipuri.
