SIVASAGAR: Subedar Nitul Gogoi of the 8 Assam Regiment posted at Siachen Glacier passed away on March 13 because of complications arising from exposure to extreme climatic conditions. Yesterday, the people of the state bid adieu to the people of the state.
Mortal remains of Gogoi, the son of Moina Gogoi and Kanchan Gogoi of Khanamukh Tipomia village in Sivasagar, were brought by a special aircraft to Mohanbari on Monday, where a wreath-laying ceremony was held.
The villagers bid a tearful adieu and lit an earthen lamp in front of their houses for his eternal peace. Army personnel from 41 Sub Area Jorhat performed the ceremonial funeral parade at the deceased's funeral.
It needs mention here that several dignitaries reached the village to pay their tributes at a shraddhanjali function was held. Army personnel of no. 41 and 101 Sub area, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Bishnu Kamal Borah, and election candidates Amitav Prodip Hazarika (AGP) and Chandra Baruah (AJP-Raijor Dal) were present at yesterday's function.
Gogoi's last rites were performed in the presence of a large gathering of people near his residence with state military honour. He is survived by his wife, two minor children, and his mother.
