TAMPULPUR: Yamini Swargiary (60), a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and the Vice-President of Baksa Unit of Assam was killed in a road accident on Monday.
Swargiary was a resident of Bhaktapara village in Tamulpur of Baksa district.
The incident took place when she was riding a scooty along with other BJP leaders and activists to attend a programme of Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta in Kachubari area of Tamulpur.
Yamini Swargiary also accompanied her daughter Prabha Swargiary to programme.

However, the program got canceled as the helicopter in which Minister Mahanta and four officials boarded to Tamulpur from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport Guwahati developed a technical snag mid-air and it was forced to return to the airport.
The accident took place in front of Tamulpur High School on the Rangiya-Tamulpur-Bhutan road when Yamini and her daughter were on their way back home. A truck bearing the registration number (PB-10-CZ-9091) hit their scooty from the opposite direction causing serious injury to both.

The duo was immediately taken to Tamulpur Primary Hospital, by the party workers where they were given first aid and then referred to Swasti Hospital, Rangiya for better treatment. However, Yamini later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
