Assam BJP MLA Krishnendu Pal tests positive for COVID19

BJP MLA from Patharkandi, Krishnendu Pal has been tested positive for COVID19. He is a 1st time MLA. Sources revealed to Inside Northeast that the MLA had visited a lot of quarantine centres recently. Patharkandi is a township located in Karimganj district in the Indian state of Assam. It is 350 kilometres south of the state capital Guwahati and 32 kilometres south of the district headquarters Karimganj. The total no. of cases in Karimganj is now 115. This highlights already the crucial phase Assam has entered with rising Corona positive cases.

With the increasing number of cases in Assam, the state Health Minister initiated a meeting to take stock of the situation. He addressed key concerns of the state such as testing, mortality rates, migrants and Guwahati’s condition.

So far, 2,04,000+ people have come back to the state with around 70,000 from road and 1,90,000 from trains and 60,000 from the train. The 75,000 inter Northeast states are not counted. On the 15th June, 8,5009+ people came from the Shramik Express and 5,000+came yesterday. From the 21st Krishrak-Sharmik express is expected to be halted and as such, the load on quarantine centres will lessen.

As mentioned in the last press conference regarding the 50,000 samples to be collected from 12 screening centres in Guwahati. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa gave the updated report on the situation. He states that on an average of 400 to 500 tests are being done in these centres where people have voluntary come up for testing. As such from these centres, 114 positive cases have come up. This shows Guwahati’s critical condition.

Overall 144 patients in Guwahati without travel history and these indicate the spread of the virus in the city. 36 cases are from containment zones. If per day, more than 200 cases come in Guwahati, it would be different than 200 cases for the whole state and in turn be problematic. A common point of concern in Guwahati is Fancy Bazar connection. Another affected areas are 6 wards of the city who are in critical condition. They include war: 2,3,4,5,10,15,16. The Police Station with cases recorded in area – Jalukbari (31), Fatasil Ambari – (69), Bharalumukh – (51), Panbazar – (25).
