Nabanita Handique won the by-polls from Sonari seat by a margin of 15,311 votes against Congress’s Sushil Kumar Suri.
Handique secured 66,576 votes while Congress candidate Suri received 51,265 votes. The by-elections were necessitated due to Topon Kumar Gogoi's election to the Parliament.
