Guwahati, January 29, 2020:

Assam State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Ranjeet Kumar Dass has called forth Commander-in-Chief of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), Paresh Baruah to discuss peace talks with the Government of India (GoI).

This comes a day after Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had called upon the ULFA Chief to join in the peace talks with the Centre.

“I urge Paresh Baruah and others who have not yet decided on having a dialogue with the Centre to set aside the matter of an independent Assam and join the peace talks for the larger interest of the Assamese community,” said Dass while talking to mediapersons.

It may be mentioned here that the call to Paresh Baruah has come right after the Bodo Peace Accord was signed between the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) leaders and GoI on January 27.

The Minister had also informed that GoI was looking forward to the ULFA (I) to join the peace parlays. He said, “I appeal the people of Assam that we should all urge the ULFA (I) to join the peace talks, just like the Bodo groups joined the peace talks…The ULFA and its leader Paresh Baruah should come overground and join the peace talks..”
