A meeting was held today in Guwahati which was attended of BJP Assam State President Ranjeet Dass, Morcha President Mominul Awal, and Spokesperson. The meeting was held to discuss the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Awal stated that the BJP wants an accurate NRC devoid of any foreigners' names which will include all legal citizens.
The BJP members alleged that the NRC co-orginator's admission that he had re-verified 27% of the NRC accounts is unacceptable and alleged that he had gone against the wishes of the State and Central Government.
The BJP state unit also alleged that Hajela is keeping everyone in the dark and accused him of trying to publish an NRC containing names of scores of foreigners, implying that he is under influence of external parties.
The Assam State Unit of the BJP also alleged that Hajela's activities will be detrimental for the indigenous people of Assam, and appealed for the publication of a free and NRC in the state. "We want an accurate NRC", the claimed in unison.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the deadline for publication of the final National Register of Citizen (NRC) for Assam till August 31. Earlier, it was scheduled to be published on July 31.
At the same time, the Court turned down the request of the Union and Assam Governments to conduct 20℅ sample re-verification of draft NRC in the bordering areas of the State.
