The United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO), an influential body of indigenous Bodo community members in Assam, is organizing a protest at Assam capital Dispur with the demand of creation of a 'Boro Kachari Autonomous Council'.

The organization has demanded that an autonomous council be created immediately for the Bodos who live outside the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC). In a memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the organization stated that a BKAC should be created in keeping with Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's assurance regarding the same.
The Bodo body also demanded that a Bill pertaining to the issue be introduced during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.
It may be mentioned here that the demands for separate states and Union Territories have seen a spike, after the abrogation of Article 370, as well as the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
Ever since the bifurcation of Kashmir, the demands for separate states (for example, Bodoland and Gorkhaland in Assam), have been gaining momentum. In Tripura, the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) has, meanwhile, taken to the streets of New Delhi to demand a separate 'Twipraland' from the Central Government. Hundreds of delegates of the regional party have reached the power corridors of New Delhi to find a solution to the long-standing demand.
