Assam's cricketing sensation Riyan Parag has etched his name in the record books by becoming the youngest to score a half-century in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He earned the distinction during a match against the Delhi Capitals side held on Saturday.
At 17 years and 175 days, Parag overtook his Rajasthan Royals teammate Sanju Samson to become the youngest to have ever scored a fifty in the flagship event.
Parag's 49-ball knock was laced with four boundaries and two sixers. But despite the Assam boy's heroics, Rajasthan Royals slumped to a lowly 115/9 and the Delhi Capitals reached the target in 16.1 overs for the loss of five wickets.
With this result, the former champions Rajasthan Royals have been knocked out from the playoff contention.
