RANGIA: Even after 73 years of independence, the construction of the bridge connecting Khupanikuchi in Rangia Sub-division to Nalbari and Kamrup districts is yet to be completed.
The connecting bridge over the Nona river has not been completed even after the area has been recognized as an important one.
While the state has evolved in different areas since independence, the residents of the area continue to lead lives amid hardships due to lack of proper connectivity.

As the government turned a deaf ear to their woes, the residents of villagers in the area came together and built a bamboo bridge for connectivity. They have been using the bridge at a great risk for more than 25 years now.
Their everyday commute becomes a big challenge as they have to cross the river. Every year, the monsoons wash away their makeshift bamboo bridges, adding to the misery of the residents.
This year too, the monsoon damaged the bridge putting the residents in distress as now they are investing their time and money into repairing it.
"There are schools, religious and public places on the other side of the bridge. Hence, we need to travel to the other side. But due to the lack of a proper bridge we have been making use of this shaky bamboo bridge for commuting", said a resident of Rangia.
The worst sufferers of this negligence are the school children who have to cross the river using makeshift boats to travel to reach schools.
"Often many children have fallen into the river while trying to cross it on their way to school. Last year as many as 7 people have drowned, It is very disheartening for us', he added.
Meanwhile, the residents have once again requested the MLA of Rangia constituency, Bhabesh Kalita, to take immediate steps to build a bridge.
