DISPUR: Assam's Finance Minister Ajanta Neog today while announcing the Assam budget 20-21 today said that a State University shall be set up in Karbi Anglong district.
According to Neog, there is a possibility to upgrade the Diphu Government College, established in the year 1964, into the State University. It is currently affiliated with the Assam Assembly.
On the other hand, five more medical colleges are to be set up at Golaghat, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Bongaigaon, Tamulpur at a cost of Rs 16 crore each.

Neog further announced a budget allocation of Rs 8 crore (2021-22), Rs 22 crore (2022-23) and Rs 20 crore (2023-24) to each of six universities to be set up under Tejasvi Navadhitamastu Edu-Infra Funds (TNEIF).
The Universities are Majuli University of Culture, Rabindranath Tagore University (Hojai), Bhattadev University (Pathsala), Madhabdev University (Narayanpur), Birangana Sati Sadhini State University (Golaghat) and Aniruddhadev Sports University (Chabua).
Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, who is the first woman minister to hold the Finance portfolio, is tabling the annual Budget for fiscal 2021-22 in the State Assembly. She is the first women Finance Minister of the State.
