Assam’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jagadish Bhuyan on Friday resigned from his post in opposition to the government’s move of amending the citizenship Amendment Bill.
The resignation came up in view of the rising protests in the state of Assam.

It is to be mentioned here that massive protests have been going on in the state of Assam after the Citizenship Bill’s passage in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Students, mothers, civil organizations and all the stakeholders of the society in Assam have moved to the streets and protested against the contentious Bill.
While the internet has been suspended till Saturday, educational institutions will remain closed till December 22 and examinations of the colleges have been postponed to an indefinite period.
