Assam Actress Barsha Rani Bishaya, while addressing a gathering of mass protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) said that the youth of India had voted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and favored Union Home Minister Amit Shah because they are Gujjus and that would help in accelerating the Indian economy.
Citing the current state of India’s economy, Barsha said, “The Youth of India thought that you people are from Gujarat. You are Gujjus. So you would have the business mindset and leaders like you would help in developing the country’s economy. But where is your promise of 7 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP)? The economy stands at 4.5 GDP.”

Lashing out at the current BJP-led central government, Barsha said that the country’s economy has gone down, yet the Prime Minister and Home Minister were busy getting the CAB passed. She warned to refrain from imposing the Citizenship Act of bringing in the undocumented non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
“We have been facing discrimination since our childhood days. Now do not try to bring in outsiders and divide us on communal grounds. Assam will not accept the CAB,” said the Assam Actress.
Barsha was speaking at a gathering called by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in Guwahati’s Chandmari. AASU had called for an 11-hour hunger strike in opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
It may be mentioned here that widespread protests have been going on in Assam over the Citizenship Bill and the agitation turned massive post the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha passage. The people of Assam have been opposing the Bill as it poses as a threat to the indigenous people and their rights.
