Assam Cabinet approves introduction of 'Assam Official Language Amendment Bill'

DISPUR: The Assam Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today took several key decisions, including the introduction of the Assam Official Language Amendment Bill.

The Assam Cabinet today approved the introduction of the Assam Official Language Amendment Bill (to replace the ordinance) for Bodo Language in Devanagri Script as the Associate Official Language of Assam.

Land acquisition through Direct Purchase by way of a negotiated settlement for improvement of State Highways and major district roads under the Asom Mala Program and the EAP was also approved.

Two new Directorates -- 'Directorate of Women and Child Development' and 'Directorate of Social Justice and Empowerment' -- will be created in place of 'Directorate of Social Welfare.'

The Cabinet has also approved the taking of loan of Rs. 91 crores from the NABARD under the RIDF.

The Cabinet has also resolved to introduce a new Bill for the provincialization of the posts of Librarian in Degree Colleges.

The Cabinet today also approved the proposals for the amendment of the Autonomous Council Acts - Kamatapur, Matak, Moran, and setting up of Bodo-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council.

The Cabinet also approved the taking care of the Kokrajhar College and Fine Arts College, Kokrajhar, and the Asom Sattriya Sangeet Maha Vidyalaya, Jorhat.

The Career Progression Scheme for the doctors serving as Medical Colleges in Assam (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor) has also been approved.
