DHUBRI: A suspected cattle smuggler was thrashed by villagers of Dhubri district in Assam, who later handed him over to the local policemen.
Officials said that 8 cattle were seized from the accused at Chagolchora which falls under Dhubri police station.
"Sub-inspector Chanyaka Das of College Town Out Post acting on a tip-off carried out a special operation at late night and was able to seize the cattle," said an official.
The smuggler evading all possibilities of being apprehended was trafficking through a backward interior road of Chagolchora village.
Inspector Das and his team wasted no time, rushing to catch the accused person. However, the smuggler managed to flee from the spot and tried to enter a house of a villager to escape from police.
According to reports, the villagers woke up and caught the accused Sirajul Haque who was brutally beaten before being handed over to the police.
A case has been registered against the accused person and further inquiry is underway, informed Partha Pratim Gogoi, Officer in Charge, Dhubri, Assam.
