GUWAHATI: A high-level central team visited districts across Assam to take stock of the damages caused by flood and landslide this year.

The 7 member team from various ministries had a detailed discussion with senior Assam govt officuals in the capital city on Wednesday.

The team was led by Manish Tiwari, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. The other members belonged to the ministries of finance, agriculture, cooperation and farmers welfare, jal shakti, power, road transport and highways, besides rural development.

The state government further requested the sum amounting to over Rs 1000 cr from the team. It had sought the amount for the repair and restoration works.

Talks on damages and loss of livelihood and property in the districts of Bongaigaon, Chirang and Lakhimpur were held.

"The state government urged the central team to consider releasing funds under the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for restoration of damages during current year flood," the statement said.

It also requested the team to consider erosion as an item admissible under SDRF/NDRF in their report to the Centre owing to the heavy loss suffering that state has to undergo every year.

Tiwari assured the state government officials and said that his team will submit the report with the recommendations to the centre soon.
