BAKSA: In a major setback to the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) ahead of the Assembly elections, prominent leader Chandra Kanta Rajbangshi today joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Tamulpur MLA Emmanuel Mosahary.

At a meet that was presided over by Satyajit Pathak, president of Darangajuli Mandal BJP, Rajbangshi, along with 100 of his followers, formally joined the saffron party, further strengthening it ahead of the elections.

MLA Emanuel Moshahary told media persons that the saffron party is aiming to add 7,000 more members in his constituency before the LAC polls, tentatively scheduled in April 2021.

"People are attracted by the development schemes undertaken by Narendra Modi-led Government and due to this very reason, the party has seen mass joinings in the BTR. People have trust in the party and with this trust intact, the people irrespective of caste, creed, and community, are joining the BJP en masse."

The MLA, who defected to the BJP from the BPF in the lead up to the elections in the BTC Council, said that he is "100 percent sure that the BJP-led alliance will again form the Government in the state in 2021."

Chandra Kanta Rajbangshi after joining the saffron brigade said that his former party, the BPF, had failed to "fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the common people in BTC in last 17 years."

"Therefore, common people have lost their trust in BPF and now zooming towards the BJP with expectations of developmental work. The BJP government must be commended for the construction of the RCC bridge over the Pagladiya River which connects Tamulpur and Baksa district headquarter Mushalpur," he added.
