Horrifying details of physical and sexual abuse child inmates of a children home at Sivsagar came to light. Worse, one of the survivors even attempted to end life!
Swapnalay Children Home, a children home in Shivsagar was indulged in sexual and physical abuse of child inmates by the superintendent. The matter came to light when the child welfare committee, Shivsagar received information regarding the escape of three girls from the children home on September 3. Later during the enquiry horrifying details of sexual abuse of the girls by the superintendent Parag Goswami came to light.
The house mother Gita Kakoty also tortured the children, and unable to bear the agony the girls ran away. The statement of the girls was recorded by the members of CWC.
Child Right Activist, Miguel Das Queah after receiving a letter stated that “"Crimes against children in child care institutions are a major concern. Lobbying by politically powerful offenders and repeated police inaction often leads to injustice against abused children. In this case I demand the arrest of Parag Goswami, Gita Kakati and all other accomplices. The Swapnalay Home must be closed and all the children should be shifted to a safe place. Also, a social audit should be put into place to ensure protection of children inside childrens Homes".
Further when tried speaking to the Superintendent of the Police, Subudh Kr Sunuwal, he straightly denied his ignorance and disconnected the call.
The story was taken further, while InsideNE speaking to the Deputy Commissioner, he stated, that “the case has been taken at an earliest note and a immediate charge sheet should be filed.”
