Assam: CID team heads to Kakopathar to probe Parag Bhuyan death case

TINSUKIA: In a recent development in the Parag Bhuyan case, a CID team lead by a senior superintendent of police on November 13 left for Kokapathar in Assam’s Tinsukia district to launch an inquiry into the death probe.

The Assam Chief Minister on November 12 ordered a CID probe into the death case of Parag Bhuyan.

In accordance with the CM’s order, a team led by Bibekananda Das, SSP proceeded to tinsukia.

A team from Forensic Science Laboratory comprising senior scientific officer & in-charge physics division Dr Partha Pratim Dev Sarma; junior scientific officer (serology division) Arup Manta and laboratory technician Haren Das have also proceeded to Tinsukia to assist the investigation.

The Parag Bhuyan Case:

In a tragic incident, Parag Bhuyan (53), a journalist hailing from Kakopathar town of Assam, was knocked down by a vehicle on November 11 near his house on the NH-15 while taking a walk on the highway. The vehicle immediately fled from the spot towards the Dirak side of Kakopathar Police Station — near the Assam-Arunachal inter-state border.
According to reports, Bhuyan was a senior correspondent of the Pratidin group and local reporter of Axomiya Khabar, and VP of Tinsukia Press Club. He was also the younger brother of Ex-Minister Jagadish Bhuyan.
Upon verification of some local witnesses and after checking the CCTV camera at the Police Station, it was found that a Tata Xenon green tea leaf carrying vehicle could be involved in the accident.
It was found that the last digits of the vehicle registration no. is likely to be 7881.
