Assam: Cigarette Smuggler Nabbed in Guwahatiassam

Guwahati, July 20, 2019:

Early in the morning on July 20, a suspected cigarette smuggler carrying a large consignment was nabbed in Guwahati city of Assam.

The smuggler has been identified as Rangaswami Panir Salvem (51), a resident of Tiruvalluar District in Tamil Nadu.

He was carrying 460 packets of foreign-made cigarettes. Officials have reported that the cigarettes he was carrying were made in Korea. The accused was carrying 92,000 of the poisonous sticks on the Bangalore Express Train, when the local authorities nabbed him. The total international value of the cigarettes is approximately Rs. 5 lakhs.

The train checking staff of Guwahati Railway Police apprehended the person and seized the cigarettes.The seized cigarettes along with the person will be handed over to the Customs Department.
