GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister has issued a warning ahead of the New Year's Eve and New Year celebrations in the state.

Retweeting a humorous tweet by the Assam police, Biswa Sarma wrote: "This message from

">@assampolice for the New Year’s eve is loud and clear! Stay safe."

Anticipating the violation of road safety protocol on New Year, the state police force has ramped up its campaign ahead of New Year's Eve, which is expected to see heavy partying and merry-making as the night curfew has been lifted. Heavy fines are being charged from those violating safety protocol -- such as riding without helmets, driving without seat belts, et al.

On the violation of the traffic rules this New Year, people of the state will have to spend the night on lockup and also heavy fines will be imposed on them.

Retweeting the CM's endorsement of the Assam Police's message, it replied from its official handle: "Thank You Hon'ble CM Shri

">@himantabiswa Sir. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens on this New Year's Eve, as envisaged by you."

Biswa Sarma has reiterated that violation of the protocol will result in offenders being locked up.

Assam has already witnessed more than 6,800 accidents, in which over 2,800 people have lost their lives in 2021 which has forced the state administration to vow to have accident-free celebrations on December 31. Assam Police that often resorts to humor in its awareness campaigns today shared a special invitation for people who are planning to drink and/or rash drive this new years eve.

In its invitation letter, the state police asked all such people to try and not be their guests. The police sarcastically allowed free entry for Rash drivers, Drunk drivers and other eligible violators. It also said that stags will be allowed.
