Assam CM Promises Free Sugar to Tea Garden Community from December Onwards

Guwahati, October 24, 2019:

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the officials to provide free sugar to Tea Garden community beneficiaries from December.

The decision was taken during a meeting of SLAC for 'Tea Tribe Welfare' chaired by CM Sarbananda Sonowal, in presence of Minister Pallab Lochan Das MLAs and officials at Janata Bhawan.

The CM directed officials to appoint 'Shramik Mitra', i.e a nodal officer, at every tea garden of the state.

The CM further directed the officials to form a committee to organize Tea Tribe Cultural Fest at Tinsukia, Guwahati, and Karimganj.

In the meeting, it was also decided to name the Special Tea Tribes Scholarship scheme after community leader Simon Singh Horo. Under the scheme, scholarship of Rs 10,000 will be provided to 10th and 12th passed students of the community.
