Assam CM Reviews COVID Situation & Flood Preparedness

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday reviewed the COVID-19 situation as well as flood preparedness in the state via video conferencing.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday reviewed the COVID-19 situation as well as flood preparedness in the state via video conferencing.

The virtual meeting was attended by DCs, SPs, Principals of Medical Colleges as well as Joint directors of Health Services.

The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioners to put in force community surveillance system to prevent spreading of the virus from urban areas to rural areas. The Superintendents of Police have been directed by the Chief Minister to impose curfew and inter-district ban on movement to help in containment of the virus.

Sarma asked the Chief Secretary to take steps to exempt Railway, Bank, LPG distribution networks and all other sectors from the purview of curfew as frontline workers to receive COVID vaccination on priority basis.

During the meeting the Chief Minister also announced that announced that every District would receive Rs. 10 Lakh from Chief Minister's Relief Fund to enable DCs to meet unseen expenditure like providing help to distressed people during flood which are not covered by flood manual.

“Floods during #Covid times can be far more challenging and therefore important that we’re doubly prepared”, said the Chief Minister in a tweet.

Sarma further asked all the DCs to activate their district disaster management plans prior to the seasonal flood and also asked them to put in place the relief camps complying COVID 19 protocols.
