An official said that Chief Minister Sonowal reached Mohanbari airport in Dibrugarh on his way back to Guwahati.
Earlier in the afternoon, the former Assam CM's son Gaurav said that former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had called him up to enquire about his father's health. Another national Congress leader -- Rahul Gandhi -- had also called him to ask about the senior Gogoi's health.
India's current Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have also been keeping tabs on the ailing Congressman's health, officials informed.
Early in the morning today, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is on “total life support” and his condition is “very very critical.” The Minister said that doctors’ efforts will not be enough and that the 86-year-old will require a divine intervention to make a recovery.
It needs mention here that Tarun Gogoi, who is a heart patient, tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus on August 25, and was admitted to the GMCH the next day. Gogoi was treated for 20 days and finally tested negative. Gogoi’s existing co-morbidities and advanced age had made recovery slow.
He was once again admitted to the same hospital on September 24 following a drop in his oxygen level, and was discharged in the last week of October.
